This is a very high quality early 19th cent desk. Constructed in figured Cuban mahogany. William IV period 1830 -37. Almost certainly made in Cork, Ireland., to order for one of the ‘ Irish Big Houses ‘ built just prior to the Great Famine.
Raised on turned & carved legs of the period with brass castors. Above a carved frieze with two large,deep mahogany lined drawers. The cylinder top opening to reveal slide-out desk top with integral adjustable reading slope fitted with a gilt tooled leather inset. Behind, a combination of nine oak lined drawers with faux-ivory and brass knobs. In addition there is a very large, very secret, compartment suitable for storing larger documents.
The whole desk is in fully original condition. It has been cleaned and professionally re-polished to retain its old patination . An exceptional antique desk.

Knee-hole height when fully open 29.5 ins.
With its large open desk size, storage space, ample knee height and the capability to completely close up when not in use makes this lovely antique desk perfect as a ‘home office’. See photograph.
